No. 07 — About the Appraiser

E. Linda Poras

For more than thirty years I worked in New England’s art world — thirteen years as Curator of Contemporary Art at the Fitchburg Art Museum, and thirteen as Executive Director and Curator of the Brush Art Gallery and Studios, an art studio and gallery complex in Lowell’s National Historical Park. I curated more than fifty exhibitions of national and international artists, including guest curatorships at the Danforth Museum of Art.

That career is why my appraisals read the way they do. I trained in appraisal studies at New York University, hold an MSAEd in museum studies and art history from the Massachusetts College of Art, pursued graduate study in art history at Harvard, studied intaglio and lithography at Clark University, art history and studio work at the University of Siena, and earned a B.S. in studio art and art history from SUNY Buffalo. My practice depends on personal relationships with specialists at galleries and auction houses — people I can call when a comparable sale or an artist’s market needs a second look. Every report is USPAP-compliant, independent, and written to hold up before the IRS, insurers, and the courts.
